I just discovered this and thought everyone should know about it. Amazon.com has started a virtual library through which you can search the text of 120,000 books directly - every page - all 33 million of them! You can then read the virtual page and a couple of pages around it. You can obviously buy the books from them, though some of them are out of print, but the most important thing is that you can find mentions of people, places and ides that are not in the title or abstract of the book - things that are only mentioned in passing -and find a broader spectrum of information than you could find doing a regular search.
It is integrated into the regular Amazon book search engine. They ask for a credit card, which will not be billed, I think to track you so you don't use this to read the entire book for free.
The link below is to an upcoming Wired article in the November issue of the magazine. They thought it was important enough to provide it online in advance of the issue. I just found this astounding, and thought everyone would be interested. It opens a whole new way to get at information.
